The Lady is shown in a contemporary setting, where her voluptuous nakedness challenged Victorian standards of modesty and morality.

About the Artist

John Collier was a British painter and writer. Born in London, he studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1881, and under William Adolphe Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury at the Académie Julian from 1885.
